Another Wrinkle in Birth Parent Searching

On a recent research project in Jiangxi, we encountered a sentiment that we have experienced many times over the years -- the fear among many Chinese residents that children adopted internationally are used for organ donations.

How does this belief impact a birth parent search? And did it play a role in the sharp declines in findings that were seen in many orphanages after the Hunan scandal?

Today's article on our subscription blog addresses these questions.

What kind of person would abandon their child if they thought there was any chance the child would be adopted for the sole purpose of having their organs harvested?

Seriously.

Chinese birth parents might be desperate but they're not stupid.

The article goes into it in great depth. The simple answer is they don't, and that is part of the reason abandonments in areas of IA orphanages have decreased.

I am so sad to hear you went to Jiangxi and I missed it. How can I be sure and find out when you are retuning to Jiangxi? I would love to have you visit our daughter's foster family.

Research projects to the various orphanages are usually composed of families that have contacted us about their child's finding ad, etc. Those families are among the first to be invited to join a project.

Thanks!

Brian I have received my child's finding ad from you and used your wife's services several times.
So am I correct in understanding that this is by invitation only?

Actually, all are invited to join the subscription blog. The only restriction is that you need to provide your name and phone number, and pay the subscription fee of $20 per year.
